At C2E2 2013, Marty planned to have an Armorvor exclusive at his table. The theme would be a familiar one: Infection! Marty's first Glyos exclusive was a clear red Pheyden that was "infected" by spider parts. (You might remember I did the artwork
for that one, too.) So, for C2E2 2013, he would provide clear red Armorvors
as part of his Glyos Infection line. I was eager to revisit the concept, especially since Glyos Infection had been one of my first illustrations for him.
The assignment was to take the existing Armorvor Wolf illustration
and recolor it in "clear red". Easy enough. But the filling process for the line work left a lot of jagged edges. No problem, I thought. Nobody will notice anyway because the image, which is 1500x2100 on my computer, will be resized to just 2"x3" when it is printed. That's small enough to hide imperfections like that. But when Marty mentioned that he wanted a banner
featuring the infected Armorvor to hang at his booth, I knew I couldn't let those jaggies slide.
Most of the layers scaled up without any problem, but I did have to redo the line work. I selected all the lines with the magic wand, then smoothed them out by making a workpath of 1 or 2 pixels with the pen tool and filled the lines as I needed. The whole process wasn't too onerous, and it's good to know what is entailed with blowing up some of my artwork like that in case I ever have to do that again.
